“Farm Picnic” - Learn the fun and richness to “eat” at farms in the Tokachi Region

Many people imagine blue sky, white clouds, continuous grasslands, and farms when they think about Hokkaido!

Tokachi Region is one of the regions where you can encounter such Hokkaido-like landscapes. You can learn how foods from vast farms of Tokachi are delivered to our tables by using five senses when you participate in “Farm Picnic.”

You will enter the real farm in “Farm Picnic” tours

“Farm Picnic” is a tour to experience harvesting as you walk through the real farms in Tokachi Region and enjoy freshly cooked meals.

Itadakimasu Company” offers this tour to enjoy the best flavors of the season since 2012.

The most significant characteristic of “Farm Picnic” is that you will enter the real farms that farmers work, in the tour.

You can learn about the farm and farmers’ thoughts on growing vegetables as you walk through the fields.

Most experiential programs such as harvesting tours are offered in so-called “tourist farms.” Those farms are built especially for tourists.

However, farmers who cooperate with “Itadakimasu Company” wants visitors to learn how and where vegetables they eat every day have grown. So the tours take people to real business farms.

Many farmers in the Tokachi Region manage approximately eight Tokyo Dome size farms in a family of three to four people. You will feel the size of the farm when you participate in the Farm Picnic. I felt people might get lost without a guide.

What kind of programs are there?

Summer in Hokkaido is really short, and farmers are very busy in July and August. However, this is the time when they offer the most various tours. Many vegetables welcome the best season.

They offer tours such as “Potato harvesting picnic with a farmer guide,” “Freshly harvested corns picnic with a farmer guide,” and many more.

“Freshly harvested corns picnic with a farmer guide” is a top-rated tour that you can harvest sweet corns. They offer the tour in Otofuke-Cho of Tokachi Region until late September.

You can get to bite an ear of gold corn with juicy pieces after walking through corn farms with much taller height than people. This tour is unique to “Farm Picnic.”

And “Chinese yam harvesting picnic with a farmer guide” is offered until late October in Obihiro City.

Guides are former farmers and locals

“Farm Picnic” is offered with cooperations of many farmers in the Tokachi Region.

These include farmers who have fields and agriculture-related people who participate in the tours as guides.

They stand in the middle of professionals who have dedicated to agriculture for a long time and participants who are interested in foods and farms. They provide descriptive guides.

The tours don’t merely harvest and eat. They offer knowledge such as where do those vegetables travel, what they will be processed into, and give quizzes about which seedlings turn out what kind of vegetables.

You can have not only delicious foods but also have experiential learnings about how vegetables are delivered to our tables.

Farm Picnic attracts more and more people every time and repeat customers have increased by each year.

You have to wait until next year as it’s a seasonal tour. Why don’t you visit there to enjoy the resources of Tokachi from vast fields with your five senses?
