Kushiro City is perfect for extended stay, why?According to the general incorporated association “Kushiro Tourism & Convention Association”, there are three reasons why Kushiro City is perfect for an extended stay.
The first one is the comfortable weather as a cool place to relax in summer.
There are many areas which go over 30 degrees in Hokkaido recently; however, the average maximum temperature in Kushiro in mid-summer is only around 21.4 degrees. It’s one of the coolest places in Hokkaido during the summer.
The second reason is that the pollen-free environment because there is no cedar and cypress trees.
If that is so… yes! For those people who suffer from cedar or cypress pollen allergy, Kushiro is a perfect place to spend time without pollen.
▲Above are tourist attractions in Kushiro City “Nusamai Bridge” and the shopping and tourism facility “Kushiro Fisherman’s Wharf Moo”. (The picture is provided by Kushiro Tourism & Convention Association”
The third reason is the excellent balance of amazing nature and convenient city life.
Kushiro is the urban center with two national parks: “Kushiro Shitsugen National Park” and “Akan-Mashu National Park”.
Visiting globally renowned tourist destinations from the downtown is easy. It’s an ideal city which mixes nature and city.

Enjoy “Kushiro Shitsugen National Park” entirely with a rental car!I guess there are many people who plan to travel around Kushiro City with a rental car in a short time like one night or two nights because of the low-cost flights from Kansai area.
However, you should not forget that Hokkaido is big!
Let’s fully enjoy the short stay by visiting around the tourist destinations efficiently!
“Kushiro Shitsugen National Park”, which is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Hokkaido, is the biggest wetland in Japan and Osaka City fits completely in the area.
So today, I would like to introduce “Kushiro Marsh Observatory” which is the closest observation from Tancho Kushiro Airport and “Onnenai Visitor Center” among multiple observation and wooden paths.
Kushiro Marsh Observatory“Kushiro Marsh Observatory” has a restaurant on the first floor.
You can enjoy meals and light meals using local Ezo deer meat “Akan Momiji” or “Akan Pork” at reasonable prices. So I can recommend this place to have a lunch.

Although the wooden path is kept in a good condition, I recommend visiting here with shoes you are comfortable or sports shoes.
▲You can encounter this scenery after walking a few minutes from the entrance of the wooden path! (The picture is provided by Kushiro Tourism & Convention Association)
Sceneries like this without anything to bother might be one of the most significant memories when you visit from cities.
Why don’t you observe seasonal plants along the wooden paths and listen to wild birds singing that you don’t hear normally?
It seems like you can sometimes encounter with Heike fireflies from evenings in mid-July to the end of July.

The original menu created by Sachiko Hattori, the owner and the chef who are good at European cuisines, are popular at Heart’n Tree.
The European style homemade meals use local ingredients and “Happy Milk” from Hishinuma Farm in Tsurui Village cost about 700 yen to 2100 yen.
They offer breakfast (from 5:30 am to 10:00 am) upon reservations until the day before, so why don’t you wake up a little early and fill your stomach while enjoying the morning view of Tsurui Village?
▲Their homemade “Heart’s white mold cheese” was introduced in a TV program which was broadcasted all over Japan.
I asked Mr. Hattori why they made the cheese in a heart shape.
He told me two reasons: one is that the name of his restaurant “Heart’n Tree” which means heart and tree and heart shape represents happiness, so he wanted to give parts of joy to his customers.
There are other heart-shaped products such as cookies and pastries.
