The beautiful "Oshin Koshin Waterfall", which has been chosen as one of the "Best 100 Waterfalls in Japan," can be found along National Highway 334, just before entering a tunnel. Because the waterfall splits into two streams partway down, it is also called "Twin Beauty Falls" by some. This waterfall features a staircase which leads up and through the waterfall, and a viewing platform located at the top. Both of these features are appealing but for me the platform is the real draw, allowing a great view of both the Okhotsk Sea and the Shiretoko mountain range. During winter, as the drift ice makes its way along the northeast coast, the waterfall freezes, becoming a cascade of beautiful ice. If you’re driving down highway 334 be sure to stop and enjoy the scene.
