Although we've finally reached the end of summer, I think we can all agree that this past season in Hokkaido was a hot one. More than once the peak temperature beat out even Okinawa, giving visitors and residents of Hokkaido alike quite the shock.
Even after we entered September there were strings of hot days that just never seemed to end, and it began to look like fall would never come.
This picture, from September 17th, is of the "Roof of Hokkaido," Taisetsuzan mountain range. This is the first place in Japan to show the changing autumn leaves, and this picture features the land surrounding Mt. Kurodake.
Although we've already passed the usual peak of fall colors, due to this year’s high temperatures the changes have just begun to show. Meaning that this year, October will feature some beautiful fall foliage!
Mt. Kurodake features a gondola and lift, meaning it's easy for even first time visitors to make their way up the mountain, and right now is the best time for visitors to see the beautiful fall colors of Hokkaido. So if you're in the area and feel like taking in the beautiful scenery, be sure to stop by!
