“Lake Toya Gurutto Chokoku Koen (Sculpture Park)”, enjoy the art of nature and sculpture at the lakeside!
The sculpture pieces are scattered along the streets and promenades around Lake Toya, and many of them are gathered near the onsen district on the south side.
34 sculpture pieces gather in 5 kilometers from Mt. Usu Funka Memorial Park in Toyako-Cho to Showa Shinzan Youth Hostel. You can encounter with many pieces by just walking along the promenade along the lakeside in front of the onsen district.
▲“Shio Wataru Kaze/Tando Saka”, put near the bridge at the promenade around the lakeside. The ship behind is a sightseeing boat Espoir, which takes to island in the lake.
▲“Nijigenso/Yoshiko Segawa” is in front of The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort located at the promenade around the lakeside. The sculpture uses glass and stainless.
▲Black granite was shiny and beautiful. “Sun-TOYA/Shiro Hayami” is in front of Toya Kanko Hotel located at the promenade around the lakeside.
▲“Taiyo no Sanka/Machiko Kodera” is a bronze sculpture located in front of The Lake View Toya Nonokaze Resort located at the promenade around the lakeside. The sculpture looks different when it gets lights from hotels at night.
The various sculptures using different materials, motifs, and shapes never make us bored. The attraction of sculpture put open-air is that the background is nature such as the lake, and we can get close and even touch it. Don’t you feel artists’ thoughts if you look closely? I felt art very close to me here.
▲“Kaisei/Kan Yasuda” looked like some white and soft, mysterious creature from a distance. This piece is located near the bridge.
▲The two sculptures totally mixed with natural scenery. The left side of Mr. Usu Funka Memorial Park is “SHOWEN/Noriyoshi Matsumoto” and right is “Utsuroi/Aiko Miyawaki”.
Of course, you are allowed to take pictures so you can take pictures to post to your SNS timelines or use it to practice your camera skills. You can enjoy in various ways.
▲The huge mask is so photogenic! “Tsuki No Hikari/Igor Mitoraj” in Mt. Usu Funka Memorial Park.
▲They were so cute, so I got on them. “Muse/Nobuyuki Akechi” in Mt. Usu Funka Memorial Park.
By the way, there is another way to enjoy the promenade around the lake. That is “Foot pressure point health street” which visitors can walk on it. The street is located in the promenade around the lake and is about 100 meters with many fist-sized stones buried. The stones give you mild stimulation when you walk on it! There is also a footbath so why don’t you take a break of your journey here?
It is about 2 hours from Sapporo using National Route 230 by car and 1 hour from Shin-Chitose Park using Hokkaido Expressway. Enjoy the art together with onsen and sightseeing in the area!
