[ Food ] "Northern High-Grade Foods" Recommendations from experts in the field!
"Northern High-Grade Foods" are carefully selected Hokkaido produced foods carefully selected by buyers, popular chefs, and other professionals.
This is the third year that producers have been working on expanding the market of Hokkaido produced food.
This past February 18th there was a certification for "Northern High-Grade Food" at the former Hokkaido Government Building.
Hokkaido Likers supports all things Hokkaido, so of course we attended the event as well! (Not just for the free tasting!)
This year ten new foods were certified as high-grade food bringing the total to 25. In 2011, the first year of certification, seven items were designated high-grade. The next year, in 2012, eight items were certified.
A representative from the Ministry of Economic Affairs Food-Related Marketing Group explained "There is a story behind each food that is certified. We make sure that all raw materials are Hokkaido produced, and make sure that the production techniques leave the items packed full of hearty Hokkaido taste."
The foods which are certified are not your regular items, they are specialty items which are best eaten at special occasions or used as souvenirs.
This delicious jelly is made with 100% cherry tomatoes, and high quality "Carol Seven" sugar. The delicious taste is a highly concentrated tomato taste that I've never had before.
I was able to try each of the foods featured at the event, but everything was so delicious that I could write an article about each one!
So, if you're interested in finding out what high-grade foods the north has to offer, you can look forward to an article on each product certified this year right here on Hokkaido Likers!
